Here’s a nice interview with Elbow, in which Guy Garvey and Pete Turner drink Stella from cans (!!), Garvey thinks MGMT is from England and Garvey recalls the first song he wrote, “a very naive song about smoking weed.” Also, Garvey talks about wanting to see the National at this festival, Pukkelpop 2008. I just finished watching Elbow’s turn on Sundance Channel’s Live from Abbey Road series. I still have little doubt that The Seldom Seen Kid ends up in my Top 5 (probably Top 3) albums of the year. It just stands a classic/timeless album, pretty much like every Elbow record before it. Not sure how I … Continue reading Elbow: Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver (live)
Elbow’s been all over since releasing its latest (and fantastic) album The Seldom Seen Kid. The band’s latest promo stop was on BBC’s Radio 1 Live Lounge, where they performed (with a string trio) two songs, including a cover of Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black. It’s a very sympathetic and endearing cover. Clearly, Winehouse has … Continue reading Elbow covers Amy Winehouse: Back to Black
Unfortunately, we didn’t drive out to Los Angeles for Elbow’s show on Friday night at the Avalon. But I’ve decided, unilaterally – all on my own, without help from the blogs or Pitchfork – that the band’s new record, The Seldom Seen Kid, is my favorite of 2008 so far. There’s so much to it, … Continue reading Elbow: Live on KEXP (5/5/08)
We’ve already seen the Grounds for Divorce video from Elbow’s latest, The Seldom Seen Kid (due out in the U.S. on April 22), and now we have another one, this time for One Day Like This. This video is pretty masterful in its simplicity. The visuals – a single-camera shot of a kid slowly, then … Continue reading Elbow: One Day Like This (video)
According to Billboard, Elbow has hooked up with Geffen for a U.S. release of The Seldom Seen Kid, due out April 22. A single for One Day Like This will be available digitally on March 18. The band will follow with some tour dates, with a May 9 date in Los Angeles the closest they … Continue reading Elbow: The Seldom Seen Kid, out April 22 in U.S.
Well, that didn’t take long. There’s already a video for the first single from Elbow’s forthcoming record, The Seldom Seen Kid, that I posted about (with mp3) the other day.
Zane Lowe of BBC’s Radio 1 debuted the new single from Elbow, Grounds for Divorce, last week on his show. The song comes off the forthcoming record, The Seldom Seen Kid, due out in March on Fiction Records. Singer Guy Garvey told BBC Radio’s 6 Music what to expect from the record: “MP3 culture and … Continue reading New Elbow (!): Grounds for Divorce
Because I’ve been home from work the past two days feeling like this, I haven’t spent much quality time with my computer. Fortunately, I logged on to discover that Elbow is streaming a clip of a new song, The Bones of You, at its Web site. The song is off a new album due in … Continue reading Stream clip of new Elbow song
Tired of Elbow yet? Yeah, neither am I, especially after hearing this set on KEXP. I’ll continue to push Elbow until you give in and realize their greatness. … Is it working yet? … What about now? Anyway, this wasn’t just another in-studio job. No, this was one of the Seattle station’s “Behind Closed Doors” … Continue reading Elbow on KEXP, live from the Triple Door
